Noda - The city of soy sauce

In Kanto district, they usually use darker soy sauce than Kansai one. It’s due largely to  soy sauce industrial area in Chiba Pref., especially Noda or Choshi.

In mid 16 century, The soy sauce product started in Noda. Until the end of 18 century, Noda soy sauce was supplied to Edo, which is now called Tokyo by water transport on Tone river, just like wine transportation on the Rhine. And more, in Meiji era, soy sauce breweries in Noda lay rail way for soy sauce transportation and collectivized themselves as KIKKOMAN CORPORATION, which is the world largest soy sauce maker in Today.

So, today, Noda has historical cityscape, including those brewer's mansions, hall, and commercial facility, as heritage of soy sauce Economy. Especially my recommend is brewer's mansions, which has the black walls looks like dark soy sauce.
